Having a space set aside for your personal use is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It does not have to be fancy, or even big. If you don’t have a separate room you can call your own – how about a closet? A closet can be a great asset when it comes to organizing your paperwork, books and personal files. Think about it.
Would you trade some of the things that you have stuffed in a closet for a space just for your use? If interestedread on. Take a tablet and pen and sit down in front of the closet you plan to use and sketch some ways you could rearrange shelves, add a filing cabinet and create a space for your use. Do you need to have the opening enlarged? How about installing folding shutter doors if you don’t already have them? Would it work to install a shelf the length of the opening, mounted to a filing cabinet or drawers and make a desk?
Get the chair you plan to use and see what height is best for your new desk. Have the board mounted at that height that you will use for your desk. You can find pre-built shelves and framework at most of the larger home improvement centers. Mount them on the walls so you can set up your filing system and even your computer workstation at a level that is convenient for you. You can also get sets of drawers and cabinets that you could use for the base of your desk.
Get a good handyman to do the installation for you. If you do it yourself, take care that everything is mounted securely and safely. You don’t want your office to come tumbling down on your head. Would this idea work for you? Give it some thought.
